Privacy Policy
Effective October 6, 2026
The Sioux Scoop ("SiouxScoop," "we," "us") is a local guide to deals, events, and venues in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area, operated by Nash-Keller Media. This policy explains what information we collect through siouxscoop.com and our newsletter, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe, we collect your email address and, if you provide them, your name and content preferences. We also record whether you confirmed your subscription and whether you have unsubscribed.
Messages you send us. If you email us (for example, to submit a deal or event), we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message.
Technical information. Like most websites, our servers and our network provider (Cloudflare) automatically process technical data such as IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps in order to deliver the site, keep it secure, and prevent abuse. We may use privacy-conscious analytics (such as Google Analytics) to understand overall site usage; where used, those tools may set cookies in your browser.
You can browse the site without creating an account. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Tips you send us
If you use the tip form, we store what you type (the details, and the venue, link and email if you add them) so we can review it. The email address is optional and is used only to follow up on that tip. Tips are not published automatically.
Your location ("Near me")
If you tap "Near me", your browser asks for permission to share your location. We use it only in your browser to sort and filter venues by distance. It is not sent to our servers or stored. Saved "My spots" hearts are stored only in your browser.
Information about local businesses
To build our listings we gather publicly available information about local businesses and events, such as venue websites, public event calendars, public social media posts, and business details and photos from the Google Places API. This is information about businesses, not about our visitors.
Google user data
The Sioux Scoop uses Google OAuth to connect a single, SiouxScoop-owned Gmail mailbox that receives public newsletters and announcements from local businesses and organizations. With that access, our software reads unread messages in that mailbox, extracts information about local deals and events from them, and marks the messages as read. We do not request access to, read, or store any visitor's Google account or Gmail data, and we never ask visitors to sign in with Google.
Content from that mailbox is used only to find local deals and events to publish on siouxscoop.com and in our newsletter. It is not sold, not used for advertising, and not shared with third parties except the service providers listed below that process it on our behalf. People do not read the mailbox's contents except to review listings, for security purposes, or to comply with the law.
The Sioux Scoop's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
How we use information
- To send the newsletter you asked for, including subscription confirmation emails.
- To review and publish submissions you send us.
- To operate, secure, and improve the site.
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising.
Service providers
We use a small number of providers to run the site, and they process data only on our behalf: Cloudflare (network delivery and security), our hosting provider (servers and database), Resend (sending newsletter and confirmation emails), Google (the Places API for business information, Gmail for the mailbox described above, and analytics if enabled), and an AI text-processing service that turns publicly posted business information and newsletters into structured deal and event listings. Newsletter subscriber information is not sent to that AI service.
Retention
We keep subscriber information while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep your address only as long as needed to honor that request and prevent re-sending. Source material collected for listings is kept only as long as needed to publish and verify those listings. Server logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter. You can also email us to ask what information we hold about you, or to correct or delete it. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings.
Security
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections (HTTPS) and restricted access to our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes
If we change this policy, we will update the effective date above. Material changes will be noted on this page.
